Bird watching in Kampala

Double-Toothed Barbets  in one of the suburbs in Kampala

A Double-Toothed Barbet

Uganda is a great country for bird watching. With over 1000 species to be seen it is a bird lover's paradise. There are many bird safari hotspots where you can go for bird watching trips like Murchison Falls,Queen Elizabeth, Kibaale forest and Bwindi National Parks.
However even in Kampala and its environs you can see many different bird species without trying hard. You just need  a bird watching book to identify the species. Okay maybe also a binoculars for bird watching.
Examples of birds easily seen in Kampala include  the White-bellied go-away-bird, Hadada Ibis, Marabou stork, Openbill stork and the Woodland KingFisher.
An example is the picture above that I took of a Double-Toothed Barbet that I spotted one afternoon near my house. Not the kind of bird you would see everyday but one of the many surprises in store for bird watchers in Kampala.
